HCC’s open computer study labs are available for current registered credit and ESL students, faculty, staff, and alumni with current HCC login credentials. Choose a computer and log in using your HCC login ID and password. Non-students may purchase a computer lab pass from the college Cashier. Check with lab staff if you need further information or help with logging in.
Our labs are staffed by lab consultants and help desk technicians who are happy to assist you with software, hardware and technology questions or problems. Due to our "quiet rule" and limited staff, we cannot provide personal tutoring. We also cannot help students complete assigned class work. Students needing priority access computers, such as raised desk stations, PCs with scanners, or stations with specialized software (Studio 8, AutoCAD, for example), may ask lab staff to relocate you if you are using one of the priority access stations for routine work.
If you require other special assistance or accommodations in the computer study lab, please see the lab staff or contact the Technology Help Desk in advance to discuss your needs. Refer to Academic Support Services website for information about tutoring and other services to assist students in their studies.
We install software that automatically logs off the user after 10 minutes of inactivity. Personal files unsaved, or saved on the PC, are deleted when the computer reboots or the student logs off. Therefore, we recommend that you save your work frequently to your personal USB flash drive or in your StudentWeb folder. Files saved on StudentWeb folders are accessible via the Internet, on or off campus.
Computer lab rules. We strive to provide a quiet academic environment where students can study, practice skills presented in class, and complete homework assignments. Cell phone usage, food and beverages are not permitted in the computer labs. Please review the rest of the lab rules so you know our expectations for student conduct. Serious or repetitive violations of lab rules will be reported to the vice president of Student Services for disciplinary review. Our computer labs are equipped with cameras for student safety and security. Individual recreational computer use is permitted, but students working on assignments are given priority to computers when the lab is full. Additional computers for students are located in the Cafe on the Quad, the HCC Library, the lounge area outside of Student Life (SA201) and the DH first floor lounge (student login requirec). The HCC Library has four open access computers available for visitor use (no login required). The open access library computers have Internet access and Microsoft Office 2007 but you will not be able to check web based e-mail such as Yahoo mail, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.
Acceptable use of campus technology. When you register for classes at HCC, you agree to abide by certain rules and regulations when using college technology resources. For more information, scroll through the college policies to locate the acceptable use of campus technology policy or pick up a copy from staff in the computer labs.
Work in the lab. If you are interested in working in one of the college computer study labs, please print this form, fill it out and turn it in to the lab staff.
