CE6 Tips

Here are a few CE6 Tips to assist you in using our online course application:

Ensure that you are using the correct Login ID and password. 
To find your Login ID, check your registration documents.  You can also navigate to HCC Express, and use the feature, "What's My User ID," located on the bottom menu of the HCC Express login page.  Your password for CE6 is initially set to your 6-digit birth date in mmddyy format.  It is recommended that you change your CE6 password and set up a password hint after you successfully log in. 

Verify that your computer's Date and Time settings are correct.  
If incorrect, you may continually get routed back to the login page. 
In Microsoft Windows, go to Control Panel, Date and Time. 

Run the CE6 browser check:
  Are any errors reported?  Address these.

Make sure you are using a CE6 validated browser:  
Microsoft Windows:  Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8, Firefox 2.0.x & 3.0.x
MAC OS 10.4-10.5:  Safari 3.x

Verify that the latest version of Java is installed:
Windows XP:  Start - Settings - Control Panel - Java - Update tab - Update now
Windows Vista:  Start - Settings - Control Panel - Classic View - Java - Update tab - Update Now 

Disable all pop-up blockers in your browser.

Uninstall special toolbars in your browser (from Yahoo, Google, Verizon, etc.):
Windows XP:  Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs - click Change/Remove or Uninstall for the toolbar and follow any instructions 
Windows Vista:  Control panel - Programs and Features - click the program and choose yes to uninstall

Clear Java cache:
Windows XP:  Start - Settings - Control Panel - Java - Temporary Internet Files - Settings - uncheck Keep temporary files on my computer
Windows Vista:  Start - Settings - Control Panel - Classic View - Java - Temporary Internet Files - Settings - uncheck Keep temporary files on my computer

Do NOT use a bookmark to the CE6 login page:  Always login via the CE6 link on the HCC website, or manually type in the URL, http://ce6.howardcc.edu.

Set Internet Options for Internet Explorer:  In your browser window, click the Tools menu at the top of the page - scroll to Internet Options.  Do the following:

General tab:

  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Files - including offline content (aka, clearing cache)
  • Under Browsing History click on Settings  and select Everytime I visit the webpage (often this fixes Sessions Timed Out errors and problems with getting kicked back to the Institution Listing page - login loop)
  • Clear History

Security tab:

  • Move slider to "Medium" or lower (or click Default Level which changes it to Medium)
  • Add CE6 URL as a Trusted Site (Trusted Sites icon - Sites button uncheck Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone - type CE6 URL - http://ce6.howardcc.edu- Add & type https://ce6.howardcc.edu - Add

Content tab:

  • AutoComplete - Clear Forms & Clear Passwords

Advanced tab: 

  • Check Disable script debugging
  • Un-check Display a notification about every script error
  • Un-check Show friendly http error messages
  • Check Sun Java 2...
  • Un-check Microsoft VM JIT Compiler (if present)

Click OK, close browser and re-open it.

Download, install, and use Firefox for your CE6 work.
