About HCC student email

When you register for a credit course at Howard Community College, a personal HCC student email account is automatically created for you.  HCC encourages you to use this account to communicate with your instructors and classmates as well as to receive notification of upcoming college events and activities.  You can read and send email from any computer with Internet access.   You can also use your email credentials (HCC Student Login ID and password) to log into the open computer labs.

Your HCC student login ID

Your HCC student login ID (user name) is a combination of your name and your HCC student ID number, as follows: the first character of your first name + the first 7 characters of your last name + the last 4 digits of your student ID number, all in lowercase.   Your student ID number can be found on your class schedule, registration documents, or HCC photo ID.
Example:  Art Vandelay's student ID number is "1234567."  His HCC login ID is avandela4567. 

If your last name contains a special nonalphabetical character (such as "-" or "."), include it when counting the 7 characters but exclude it from your actual login ID. 
Example: Elaine Benes-Kennedy's student ID number is "1234567."  Her HCC login ID is ebenesk4567.

If your last name is shorter than 7 characters, use your full last name in your login ID.
Example: David Puddy's student ID number is "7654321."  His HCC login ID is dpuddy4321.

Your HCC student email address

Your HCC email address is your HCCLoginID@howardcc.edu.
Example:  Art Vandelay's login ID is "avandela4567."  His HCC email address is avandela4567@howardcc.edu.

Your HCC student email password

Your password is initially set to your birth date in mmddyy format.
Example: Art Vandelay's birth date is March 23, 1985.  His password is 032385.
 
You may change your HCC student email password at any time while logged in to your account if you choose to change it.  "Change My Password" is one of the many features available within your HCC student email from the "Options" menu.

Important note about other HCC login accounts

Your HCC student login ID is the same for HCC Express, HCC student email, and WebCT.  The initial password for all accounts is your six-digit birth date in mmddyy format.

However, these accounts are not linked.  HCC Express requires a password change; all other HCC accounts recommend password changes but do not require them.   A password change in HCC Express will not affect other account passwords, nor will it affect your telephone registration PIN.
