StudentsHow can I participate in the co-op & internship experience?
Students register for a 3- or 4- credit co-op classes to explore careers and gain experience in their major. With a great emphasis on acquiring and improving work-based skills and professional enhancement, students work a minimum of ten hours a week with an employer and attend six co-op seminars during the given HCC semester.
In order to participate in the Cooperative Education Program, you must have completed at least 12 credits at HCC and be in good academic standing. You must apply to the Cooperative Education / Internship Office in Counseling and Career Services and be referred to a participating employer before registering for a work experience course.
How do I locate a job site for my internship?
Co-op applicants are not assigned a position; therefore, you must allow sufficient time (16 weeks) for your job search. Check the local newspapers, or ask faculty, family, or friends. Visit your favorite corporate websites. If you need help in finding a position, check the job book listings in the HCC Career Center for any jobs that may be of interest to you, or make an appointment for individual job assistance (please bring your resume).
You may work in your position as long as the employer needs you and your interest in the assignment remains strong. In fact, most employers prefer the student to work longer than one semester.
