College prepares you for a career. Internships and co-ops are an excellent compliment to your classes and help you to get ready for your career in a very practical way. The benefits are many, including the opportunity to:
- Gain work experience in your field of interest.
- Explore whether or not you have chosen the career or major that’s best for you.
- Make professional contacts and begin networking within your chosen career.
- Use knowledge and skills gained in the classroom in a professional setting.
- Learn new skills.
- Increase your chances for job offers after you graduate.
The following steps are required to get started.
Step 1. Make sure you’re eligible.

Step 2. Create your resume.
Resume writing resources can be found on the Counseling and Career Services web page www.howardcc.edu/career.
