College prepares you for a career. Internships and co-ops are an excellent compliment to your classes and help you to get ready for your career in a very practical way. The benefits are many, including the opportunity to:
- Gain work experience in your field of interest.
- Explore whether or not you have chosen the career or major that’s best for you.
- Make professional contacts and begin networking within your chosen career.
- Use knowledge and skills gained in the classroom in a professional setting.
- Learn new skills.
- Increase your chances for job offers after you graduate.
The following steps are required to get started.
Step 1. Make sure you’re eligible.
You must have completed 12 college credits and have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Step 2. Create your resume.
Resume writing resources can be found on the Counseling and Career Services web page www.howardcc.edu/career.
Step 3. Have your resume reviewed and approved.
You can meet with a career counselor by appointment for a one-on-one resume review or attend a walk-in resume review session held throughout the semester.
Step 4. Schedule an appointment.
Meet with the Co-op/Internship Manager to determine whether a co-op for academic credit or an internship is right for you and begin your search. Call 443-518-1340 to make an appointment.
