FacultyMany of our students wish to earn academic credit for their work experience and therefore choose to enroll in Co-Op. Many employers have supported our students with achieving their goals. Accounting students have worked for organizations such as Accountency, a local accounting firm, and PriceWaterHouseCoopers. Business Management majors have worked with companies such as, Disney World, JHU Applied Physics Lab, and Calvert Group. Criminal Justice students have obtained opportunities with the Howard County Office of the State’s Attorney, Howard County Department of Corrections, and the Maryland State Police, among others. Our students have been fortunate to have participated in these rewarding, educational opportunities. In addition to learning valuable skills they have also earned academic credit toward their degree.
A successful Co-Op program requires students who want to apply what they are learning in the classroom in the world of work, employers who are willing to partner with HCC in the education of our students, and qualified staff and faculty who are wiling to support students during their work experience.
The duties of a Co-op Advisor include:
1. Assisting students with setting learning objectives.
2. Reviewing and grading student’s monthly progress reports (usually 2-3 short reports of no more than 2 pages).
3. Reviewing and grading student’s final report at the end the co-op (generally no more than 3 or 4 pages in length).
4. Providing support and professional guidance as needed.
