Linking Majors with Careers

Here are a few tools that can help you plan your career path.  The following resources provide career planning help, including information linking college majors with careers or jobs in which you can use the knowledge and skills learned.

     1.   HCC Areas of Study and Associated Careers or Jobs

If you would like to know what you can do with a specific major at HCC, select the specific area of study below. Each HCC program is linked to possible career paths, as well as a link to HCC’s required coursework for each program.

     2.    FOCUS-2 (Career Planning System)

FOCUS-2 is a self-guided online career assessment that helps you discover your interests, personality, leisure activities, values, and skills. These characteristics are matched with various occupations and academic majors offered at HCC. You can also research and explore over 1,200 different careers within FOCUS-2. The best part about FOCUS-2 is that you can work at your own pace and start as soon as you would like. All that you need is an account and access to the Internet! Click here to get started today. Be sure to keep track of your username and password, so that you can revisit FOCUS-2 again in the future.

     3.   What Can I Do With This Major?

Whether you are exploring multiple majors or searching for information about your chosen field, this site will help you connect majors to careers. Learn about the typical career areas and the types of employers that hire people with each major, as well as strategies to make you a more marketable candidate.
