For the Center for Service Learning's 2011 Alternative Winter Break, students traveled to the Dominican Republic to Orphanage Outreach (click to access their website) to volunteer at the Hope of a Child Orphanage providing education and opportunities to orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children.  This was our first international Alternative Break Trip!

The group in the Dominican Republic

The students were given time each day to create a lesson plan for English class which they would teach in the classrooms.  The kids had a lot of energy, and our students had a blast playing with them and teaching!
