African American Women Writers of the 19th Century
Once inaccessible, the writings of 19th century black women are now made available by the Schomburg Center (of the New York Public Library). The writings of these women “constitute the foundations of the African American…literary traditions.” Researchers and casual readers alike can search this digitized collection by keyword to discover what observations, feelings and social viewpoints these women contributed to published works.
