Electronic reservesWhat is ERes?
The HCC Library's Electronic Reserves, or ERes, system is a convenient, online, way for you to view materials posted by your instructor, such as assignments, readings, videos, answer keys, and other kinds of supplementary or required course materials. The ERes system is accessible from the Library's home page--24 hours a day, 7 days a week--via any Internet connection. Think of it as the electronic cousin of the traditional Reserves shelves behind our Check Out Desk. You'll love the flexibility that ERes offers your busy schedule.
How do I use it?
It's easy! Just go to the HCC Library Electronic Reserves page on any Internet-connected computer. Then:
1. Click on "Electronic Reserves and Course Materials;"
2. Search for your course selecting the department or your instructor's name from the drop-down menus;
3. Click on your course information;
4. Enter your course password (see below), scroll down, and click "Accept."
5. Choose the document you would like to view from the list presented, and click its title.
6. The document or video will then open; if it doesn't, you may need a plug-in.
Will it work on my computer at home?
Yes, if your computer's operating system and web browser meet some minimum requirements. Also, depending on what kind of items your instructor has put on reserve for you, you may need to download a free plug-in to help you view them. Please see the Technical Stuff page for more information. If you're not comfortable downloading plug-ins onto your own computer, the Adobe and Microsoft programs are available on the computers in the Library and in HCC's computer labs.
What's my password for ERes?
Your course password will be given to you by your instructor. Please note that your course password is not the same as the password you use to access the Library's databases.
What if I'm having problems?
If you experience any problems using ERes, please call the Library at 410-772-4922 during open hours.
