Howard Community College is committed to providing its students with a quality education. To support that commitment, Retention Services and the Athletic Department have collaborated to form an Academic Monitoring Program that will help student athletes achieve their educational goals
The Academic Monitoring Program includes:
- Scheduled Study Halls
- Bi-weekly Progress Reports
- Scheduled Tutoring
- Academic Alerts
Scheduled Study Hall Expectations
Attend all study hall sessions for the full length of time. Exceptions:
a. Academic class meets during study hall
b. Prior approval is given by the Head Coach to be absent
Use study hall time to study, work on assignments, work with tutors
The following is prohibited:
Sleeping
Leaving study hall for non-academic reasons
Excessive talking unrelated to studying
Going to media room or computer labs unless an assignment requires use of those rooms
Playing games and/or using the internet for non-academic reasons
Talking on cell phone
Listening to Walkman or Ipod devices
Being disruptive to other students in the area
Bi-Weekly Progess Reports Expectations
- Pick up progress reports on Monday from Athletic Department
- Ask instructors to fill out progress reports at the end of each class
- Return completed progress reports to coach by the end of the week
Scheduled Tutoring Expectations
- Attend all tutoring sessions on time
- Bring work to each tutoring session
- Stay for entire tutoring session
Academic Alert Form
In order to address negative classroom behaviors that prohibit student achievement, the Academic Alert Form asks faculty to report the dates when an athlete has been:
- Late for Class
- Absent from Class
- Late Turning in Assignments
- Did Not Turn in Assignments
- Did Not Take Quizzes
- Did Not Take Exams
- Not on Schedule for Successful Completion of Course Requirements
