The Learning Assistance Center (LAC) provides academic support services to all credit students enrolled at Howard Community College who would like to become more successful and efficient learners.

Group Tutoring

The LAC provides free group tutoring in most courses offered for students not qualified for the Student Support Services Program.  

Scheduled group tutoring in MOST credit courses is offered to students who are enrolled in credit classes.
Listed below are the areas we (1) do not have tutors for or (2) have a very limited number of tutors:

Higher levels of Accounting (Acct); Anthropology (Anth); Higher Levels Of Art (Artt); Computer- Aided Design (Cad); Computer Systems (Cmsy); Dance (Danc); Farsi (Fars); Office (Offi);Telecommunication (Tele);

Tutoring in the following areas are rarely requested. If we have at least five requests for tutoring in any area, we will do our best to hire tutors to meet the need.

Aging Services (Agng); Arabic (Arab); Architectural And Construction Management(Acrm); Bioinformatics (Bfmt); Biomedical Engineering (Bmet); Computer Forensic (Cfor); Conflict Resolution (Cres); Cooperative Education (Coop); Culinary Management (Cmgt); Greek (Grek); Hebrew (Hbrw); Horticulture (Hort); Interior Design (Inds); Mass Media (Mass); Photonics (Phot); Portuguese (Port); Wireless Communication (Wcom); And Women’s Studies (Wmst).

The Learning Assistance Center is located in the Student Services Building, RCF 340. 

 Our hours are as follows: 

Individual Tutoring --   Get a Tutor!    

Our tutors are professional and peer tutors, many of whom have been certified by the College Reading and Learning Association.
Students interested in receiving tutoring need to fill out and submit the following forms to our office before a tutor can be assigned.

In addition to group and individual tutoring in most credit subjects, we offer a  Write Room, for walk-in assistance in English, and a series of  study skills workshops and math reviews.

The Learning Assistance Center at Howard Community College currently offers  online writing help (HOWL), and new online tutoring for the courses listed below.
