Summer Basketball Camp Information

Coach Mike Smelkinson in his first season at Howard Community College earned a birth in the NJCAA Regional Tournament.

The HCC men's basketball team went 13-14 for the 2011-2012 season and were highly competitive in many games. HCC showed marked improvement from the 2010 - 2011 Dragons' team that went 6-19 record. The Dragons won in the first round of the Division XX Regional Tournament before their season came to an end in the second round of Regions. 

We welcome student-athletes who are dedicated to academic and athletic success. We believe Howard CC offers one of the best combinations of strong academics and competitive collegiate basketball. This is an exciting time to be a Dragon. The College and the basketball team look forward to building success in the classroom and on the court. We invite you to visit our campus. Please read through the links to the left, particularly to learn how to become a Dragon Student-Athlete, which involves making sure you have fulfilled your obligations as both a college student (new or transfer) and as a student-athlete. You will also find the required eligibility forms. Please keep in mind that in order to practice with the team you must obtain a physical in advance as well as submit all of the necessary forms. They can be submitted in person at the main office (Athletics and Fitness Center) or mailed to the Athletic Director at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD 21044.

Our required practices are generally Mon-Fri from 6-8 p.m., so make sure you keep that time available. It may be helpful if you schedule your tougher classes in the morning. We will begin our bi-weekly academic progress reporting starting the third week of practices.

Participating in this sport means that you have the opportunity to compete in the Maryland JUCO Conference and Region XX Districts and the Nationals. If you plan to transition from HCC to a four-year school and play this sport, participating here will give you a big jump into college sports.
