Student Support Services TRIO

A more personalized, structured approach to student support services

Our Student Support Services Program provides customized academic support services to students who are low income, first generation college students or have documented disabilities. The goal of the program is to increase student success toward transfer and/or completion of a degree or certificate.

As a Department of Education grant-supported program, our Student Support Services Program customizes its approach to meet the individualized needs of 225 students each year. You will receive a wide range of support services that will result in the development of academic and social skills needed to have a successful, well-rounded educational experience.

Interested in learning more? Find out more about the program via the tabs below, or check out the eligibility requirements and how to apply.

  • Academic and Personal Advising

Academic and personal advising is crucial to your educational progress. Student Support Services Program (TRIO) provides you with a program counselor who will serve to assess your needs and discuss matters in a confidential and professional manner. Academic advising will include assistance with course selection, transfer preparation, fields of study, workshops, drop/add procedures, referrals for tutoring, and other related areas. The advisors also monitor your academic progress and provide intrusive advising to help with persistence in the program of study.

  • College Tours, Cultural and Educational Activities

The Student Support Services Program (TRIO) provides opportunities for you to integrate into the campus community through cultural events and leadership activities designed to celebrate the rich diversity within the program. Activities and events take place both on the college campus as well in other communities. During the academic year, selected workshops provide students with specific skills and experience or enhancing student retention, improving grade point averages, promoting personal growth and transfer college tours.

  • Financial Aid and Financial Literacy Education

The Student Support Services Program (TRIO) is available to assist you in understanding financial aid eligibility, scholarship opportunities, and deadline requirements. Assistance is provided in completing applications and exploring options for financing college costs to ensure that you are receiving the maximum amount of aid for which they qualify.

Counselors also will help you with the development of a budget to manage expenses throughout the semester. Counselors will assist you to increase their financial literacy/knowledge.

  • One-to-One Tutoring

The level of difficulty of certain college courses often requires academic assistance outside of the classroom. The Student Support Services Program (TRIO) will provide you with this assistance. Tutors are available for individualized instruction, as well as small study groups and drop-in academic services through the Learning Assistance Center. You also will receive assistance in identifying and overcoming study skills weaknesses and in developing confidence in your relationships with faculty and classmates.

  • Transfer and Career Counseling

Program advisors with the Student Support Services Program (TRIO) are available to assist you with transfer school and career exploration. Identifying skills and interests and matching these with possible career fields are an important part of the college experience. Assistance and referrals to Career Services let you explore internship, employment, and study abroad opportunities that will enhance student experiences as well. In addition, resume writing workshops and information regarding interviewing skills is available.

Program counselors also offer you assistance in applying to and preparing for transfer to four-year institutions and, in special cases, professional schools.

Giving makes a difference! Your support helps students along their pathways to success.
