Praxis® Core Review: Math Tests

This Praxis® CORE Review Course is designed to help you prepare for the Praxis® Math Test. Passing scores on a basic skills test (Praxis®, SAT, ACT, GRE) are required for:

1) an AAT degree,
2) admission to a four-year Teacher Education program, and
3) teacher certification in Maryland and most other states.

You must pass the Praxis® exam if you have not received passing scores on another basic skills test. Conditional teachers and teacher education majors could benefit from this course. (T)

Preparation for the Math Placement Test

This course is a partnership between Howard Community College’s Division of Continuing Education and the HCC Credit Math Department. This course is recommended for those who wish to improve their chances of being placed into a higher level credit math course. The course provides a review of arithmetic, basic math functions, elementary algebra, geometry, and college math. Basic knowledge of fractions, decimals, and percents is required.

Preparation for the SAT

Ages 15+. If you are planning to take the SAT, this updated course will prepare you for both the verbal and math sections. Verbal preparation will ask you to interpret the meanings of relevant words and phrases in context, utilize close reading to increase comprehension and identify central ideas and themes of a text. The optional essay section will also be covered. Math preparation includes mastery of linear expressions, creating and solving equations, using ratios, percentages and units, problem solving, and data analysis. Students should have completed Algebra II. Test taking tips will be covered. The class simulates a test-taking environment with practice tests and exercises. This class is for high school students. Textbook is provided. You must bring a calculator.

Preparation for the SAT Math Test
