Howard Community College can give you the skills you need.

  • Learn with other adults.
  • Get help with reading, writing and math at a level that best fits your needs.
  • Gain important computer skills.

  • GED Testing Preparation

    How does it work?

    Successfully pass all four GED exams: 

    1. Reasoning Through Language Arts
    2. Mathematical Reasoning 
    3. Science
    4. Social Studies

    Credential Earned: Maryland High School Diploma

    This option is best for a student who:

    • Prefers classroom instruction
    • Has strong timed test-taking skills
    Preparation Courses and Costs
    • Basic and Intermediate Math $50
    • Advanced Math $100
    • Intermediate Language Arts $50
    • Advanced Language Arts $100

    Requirements
    To schedule the GED exams, you must be: 
    • 17 years or older
    • Officially withdrawn from high school 

    Diploma Costs: $11.25 per subject exam ($45 total)

  • National External Diploma Program (NEDP)
    How does it work?
    Successfully create an electronic portfolio. Use the experience gained from  work and life to show high school level skills while completing:
    • Online tasks
    • One-on-one, in-person assessments

    Complete in six to 12 months after qualifying.

    Credential Earned: Maryland High School Diploma

    This option is best for a student who:

    • Is self-motivated
    • Has strong technology skills
    Preparation Courses and Costs
    • EDP Preparation Course $50

    Requirements
    To participate in NEDP, you must be:
    • 18 years or older
    • Currently or recently employed
    • Able to pass a reading, math, and writing assessment

    Diploma Costs: $200 (includes $180 in fees)

  • Reading and Writing Courses
    Adult Basic Education

    Receive life skills-based instruction in reading, writing, and math. Free tuition; $50 resource fee* required at registration.

    Intermediate Language Arts

    Build your critical reading and writing skills. Free tuition; $50 resource fee* required at registration.

    Advanced Language Arts

    If you are preparing for the GEDR Test-Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA), Science, and Social Studies, this course can help you learn how to analyze and interpret context- based texts as well as construct evidence-based writing. $100 tuition required at registration (includes $90 in fees*).

  • Math Courses
    Basic Math

    Study basic whole number operations and money. Free tuition; $50 resource fee* required at registration.

    Intermediate Math

    Discover fractions, decimals, percent, ratio, proportion, data analysis, and measurement. Free tuition; $50 resource fee* required at registration.

    Intermediate II Math

    Explore signed numbers, one- and two-step equations, bangles, triangles, Pythagorean Relationship, and solid geometry. Free tuition; $50 resource fee* required at registration.

    Advanced Math

    If you are getting ready for the GED® Test-Mathematical Reasoning or if you have other educational goals, this course will provide instruction in algebra and geometry. $100 tuition required at registration (includes $90 in fees*).

  • High School Diploma Programs in North Laurel

    Do you live or work in North Laurel?  If so, you may want to attend one of the below FREE information/registration sessions to learn more about HCC’s high school diploma programs to be held in North Laurel.

    • Thursday, August 17 starting at 6:00 p.m.

    • Monday, August 21 starting at 11:00 a.m .

    • Monday, August 21 starting at 6:00 p.m .

    • Wednesday, Sept. 6 starting at 11:00 a.m .

    • Tuesday, Sept. 12 starting at 11:00 a.m .

    • Tuesday, Sept. 12 starting at 6:00 p.m.

    These sessions will all be held at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, Laurel, MD 20723. Students must be prompt!

    In addition, you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions about our high school completion programs, as well as our math and language arts classes.

Fall classes will run September 18-December 7, 2017. To make an appointment, call 443-518-4919. The final date to make an appointment is Thursday, September 7

Walk-In Registration
Appointments are recommended. If you have accommodations for testing, please bring documentation to registration.

• Tuesday, September 5, 10 a.m.
• Thursday, September 7, 5:30 p.m.
• Monday, September 11, 10 a.m.
• Wednesday, September 13, 5:30 p.m.

Hickory Ridge Building

If you choose this option, be prepared to stay for at least five hours and bring payment ($50-$100) for class.
