Take this chance to absorb Chinese culture, arts, history, and language. Participants will fly to Chengdu and Beijing with an HCC professor, and work with a team of Chinese professors including artists and language teachers. The experience involves academic course work, hands on experiences, and excursions to artists’ studios/demonstrations, ancient artifact sites, museums, theatres, and galleries.
Sichuan University and the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) will be our host institutions. Sichuan University is one of the earliest institutions of higher education in China and is located in Chengdu, the capital city of the Sichuan Province. Chengdu is a famous historic and cultural city known as "the land of abundance." CAFA is the best Fine Arts institution in China. CAFA is located in the Chaoyang District of Beijing, and was founded in 1918.
While studying at the Sichuan University, the participants will have access to studio facilities, faculty, visiting artists, and a series of lectures on traditional or contemporary Chinese and international art. While staying at CAFA, the participants will have access to a rich array of galleries, museums, artisis' studios, and places of historical interests in Beijing. Be prepared for challenging academic course work, traveling, and walking.
HCC students who wish to receive college credits need to register for the HUMN-107 course before going to China (see HCC Summer Credit Schedule of Classes). Students from other colleges and universities who want to receive credit for the course must get written permission from the appropriate department of their school prior to program departure.
Participants will begin their journey in the commercial center of Chengdu, China, where they will be staying at the Sichuan University, studying and visiting attractions of historical, cultural, and artistic significance, such as the Mt Emei, the Sanxingdui Bronze Art Museum, the Wuhou Temple, and the Giant Buddha in Leshan. The group will travel to Beijing, the capital of modern China, where they will go on excursions to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the 798 Art District, the National Opera, and the Silk Market.

The cost of the program (not including the cost of credit courses) is $4,000*.
(Limited Financial Aid available for HCC credit students.)
The $4,000* cost includes:
• International airfare and domestic airfare in China.
• Ground transportation - to and from airports in China and scheduled excursions.
• Tuition fees, lodging, and most meals at Sichuan University.
• Lodging and most meals at CAFA.
• Museum and theatre entrance tickets.

* HCC reserves the right to increase the cost of the Program Fee up to 10% due to increased program costs, flight costs, and/or currency fluctuations. The Program is subject to modification and cancellation at the discretion of HCC.
