Whatever your career or life goals, to survive and and thrive in our increasingly diverse yet interconnected world requires strong communication skills and intercultural competencies. As a Global Distinction student, you will have the opportunity to advance your studies, widen career options, and become a productive global citizen - all while completing your general education requirements!
What are the advantages of graduating or transferring with Global Distinction?
- "Global Distinction" recognition upon graduation and on your transcript.
- Advance completion of language/global credits required at many 4-year schools in our region (at a fraction of the cost!).
- Expand your world view with intercultural learning experiences within and beyond the classroom.
In order to earn Global Distinction, students complete 15 of their credits in designated globalized courses, attend international campus activities, participate in a study abroad or equivalent domestic intercultural experience, and prepare an individual e-portfolio prior to graduation or transfer.
Start your adventure with our globalized curriculum. Globalized courses allow students to experience political, economic, intellectual, and cultural diversity through their standard general education courses. Even courses like algebra or business rework problems and scenarios to better address global issues. Students who complete at least 15 credits of these globalized courses, including 8 language credits, are well on their way to earn an official "Global Distinction" designation on their transcript.
You can fill your credits of globalized curriculum across many disciplines such as history, art, writing, film, science, and much more. Students should talk to an advisor for additional questions, or a list of designated classes.
In addition, view our catalog to find specific language classes. HCC offers courses in ASL, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
The Global Distinction program allows students to become immersed in a culture through various activities each semester. These may international films (see our International Film Festival), international club events, or lectures/speakers on international topics.
Students must participate in one international activity per semester.
In addition, a Study Abroad or equivalent domestic immersion program exposes Global Distinction students to greater cultural learning. Students are required to take one these immersion experiences.
