HCC 2007-2008 Non-Need Based Institutional Endowments and Scholarships

Howard Community College’s Educational Foundation maintains endowment and scholarship programs established through generous contributions from private businesses, foundations, civic organizations, and individuals.

Application Process

1. Complete the 2007-2008 HCC Non-Need Based HCC Institutional Endowment and Scholarship Application. Additional information or application may be required for some scholarships.  Please read each item carefully.  Applications are being accepted on an ongoing basis until all funds have been allocated for the 2007-2008 academic year.

2. Type a 500 word essay on page 2 of the 2007-2008 HCC Non-Need Based HCC Institutional Endowment and Scholarship Application defining your career goals, educational goals, the benefits of a college education and how you meet the criteria established by the donor.

3.  Attach the required academic unofficial transcripts as follows:

a. College Freshman Students - attach high school transcripts.
B.  Transfer Students - attach previous college unofficial transcripts.
ac. Current HCC Students - attach an unofficial HCC transcript obtained from HCC express or Records and Registration.

4. Submit completed 2007-2008 Non-Need Based HCC Institutional Endowment and Scholarship Application, essay, and copies of required transcripts to Financial Aid Services, Room RCF-222.

Please note:  A full-time student schedule for either the fall or spring semesters generally consists of 12 to 18 credit hours. Students registered for less than 12 credit hours are classified as part-time.

Endowment and Scholarship Criteria

Alumni

HCC Alumni and Friends Endowment

Applicants must have G PA of 3.0.  One of the students’ parents or guardians must have attended HCC.

Carvell Photography Endowment

Second year student enrolled 9 hours or more. Photography major.  GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Rose Buck-Lew Family Piano EndowmentApplicant must be enrolled as a full-time music-piano major with a minimum 3.25 GPA.Candidate selection determined by the Director of Music

Assistance for Immigrants

The Hans Marchand Scholarship Endowment

The money from this fund will be used to assist immigrants to Howard County from other countries to receive a secondary education.

Ellicott City Lions Club Scholarship

Awarded to students participating in Division I or II athletics at HCC. Additional essay questions required.

Apple Ford Future Business Leader

Business major. Minimum GPA of 3.5.

Howard Bank Scholarship

Applicant must be enrolled in a business related major with a minimum of 2.0 GPA.

L. Todd Allen Human Resources Management Scholarship

Students must write a one to two page essay regarding why they are interested in pursuing a human resource management related course of study. The essay must be submitted by August 15 preceding the start of the fall semester. One student will receive an award each fall and that award can be applied toward tuition in either the fall or spring semester of that academic year.

ZONTA Club of Howard County Scholarship

Female 25 years or older preferred; must be in last year at HCC, majoring in business administration area and transferring to a 4-year institution; minimum 2.0 GPA; covers tuition/fees/books; student is eligible for Jane M. Klausman Scholarship offered through Zonta International; a club member will mentor the scholarship recipient; student recipient is encouraged to attend monthly meetings of the Zonta Club of Howard County.

For international students, or students, faculty, and staff involved in international education or programs.

Schulte Travel Fellowship

Applicants must be a United States Citizen, at least 18 years of age, and residents of Maryland. Applicants must hold a GPA of 3.0 at the college level and must have completed at least 12 credits in their program of study. A transcript must accompany the application. Students must register for the HMDV-901 course once selected.

Nursing Scholarships

The Marion Durkan Memorial Endowment

Merit-based for nursing student.  Eligible students must have achieved a GPA of 3.25 with a 3.5 GPA in nursing courses in their first year. Must demonstrate a personality and character that will translate into a positive contribution to the nursing profession (benevolent and ebullient disposition and work well with faculty and fellow students).
