HCC 2007-2008 Need Based Institutional Endowments and Scholarships

Howard Community College's Educational Foundation maintains endowment and scholarship programs established through generous contributions from private businesses, foundations, civic organizations, and individuals.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Complete the Financial Aid "2007-2008 Application Process" by the March 1, 2007 priority filing date.
  2. Complete the 2007-2008 HCC Institutional Endowment and Scholarship Application. Applications are being accepted on an on-going basis until all funds have been allocated for the 2007-2008 academic year.
  3. Type a 500 word essay on page 2 of the 2007-2008 HCC Institutional Endowment and Scholarship Application defining your career goals, educational goals, the benefits of a college education and how you meet the criteria established by the donor.
  4. Attach the required unofficial transcripts as follows:
            
    a. College Freshman Students: attach unofficial high school transcripts.
             b. Transfer Students: attach unofficial copies from previous college transcripts.
             c. Current HCC Students: attach an unofficial HCC transcript obtained from HCC Express or Records and Registration.
  5. Submit the completed 2007-2008 Non-Need Based HCC Institutional Endowment and Scholarship Application, essay, and copies of required transcripts to Financial Aid Services, Room RCF-222.

Please note: A full-time student schedule for either the fall or spring semesters generally consists of 12 to 18 credit hours.  Students registered for less than 12 credit hours are classified as part-time.

Arts and Humanities

Art Monroe Memorial Endowment

Applicants must be enrolled in a Music program. Financial need preferred.

Athletics, Health, Wellness and Fitness

The Colosseum Gym and Fitness EndowmentApplicants must have GPA of 2.5. Applicants will be chosen based on financial need. Preference given to students who are pursuing a course of study in fitness related field.

Ellen M. Cherry-Delawder Endowment

Applicant shall be a woman with dependant children in need of tuition assistance who wishes to attend HCC, preferred. Non-required criteria, but preferences: business or related field of study.

Corridor Reznick, LLC Commercial Real Estate Scholarship

Student looking to pursue a career in commercial real estate upon graduation. Average GPA of 3.0 and in financial need.

Columbia Association Endowment

Applicants must be a resident of Columbia.

Kevin L. Francis Endowment

Applicants must have a sudden family crisis that would affect the student and/or family financial situation. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be a Howard County resident.

International Studies

International Studies Endowment

Applicant must be enrolled in a credit class associated with the study abroad program. Financial need preferred. Overall GPA of 3.0 (Director of International Education)

Mexico study option; Spanish/Business Internship; Italy on Prospective; Culture of China. Applicant must demonstrate financial need. Must have an overall GPA of 3.0. (Director of International Education)

Iran Thweatt Endowment

Student must be an information technology major. Overall GPA of 3.0. Financial need.

John G. Monteabaro Endowment

Applicants must have a minimum high school or college GPA of 2.5 and have current placement into college level math. Preference given to students majoring in math, statistics or pursuing a degree in engineering or science. Financial need preferred.

Applicant must be in the IT curriculum. Must have minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicant must demonstrate financial need.

Applicant interested in pursuing careers in a variety of information technology areas specializing in science, engineering and technology. Overall GPA of 2.5 required. Applicant must demonstrate financial need.

William T. Manning EndowmentApplicants must have at least a GPA of 3.25, either high school or new freshman at HCC, and financial need.

Applicants must be a Howard County resident. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to applicants who are involved in student activities. Minimum GPA of 2.5.

Judith L. Treibman Scholarship

Open to a student who is served by the Office of Student Support Services and who has successfully completed ENG097 with a 2.0 grade and plan to enroll in ENG121. One letter of recommendation is required from an English tutor or an English instructor who knows student's level of motivation, commitment, and accomplishment.

Roger & Patti Caplan/Faye Miller Teacher Education Scholarship

Applicant must be first year student enrolled in the teacher education program. Minimum GPA of 2.5 required. Must demonstrate financial need.

Rosie Mae Bumphus Endowment

Applicants must be a returning HCC student. The applicant's family must have a minimum of five children. Financial need preferred.

Nursing and Medical

Anonymous Nursing Scholarship

1.  Student pursuing an education in the allied health area such as certified nursing assistant (CNA), licensed practical nursing (LPN)
2.  Students currently employed by Vantage House
3.  Student is required to write a letter to the donor thanking them and informing them of how this scholarship can/will change their life. (The letter should be returned to the HCC Educational Foundation. We will forward the letter to the anonymous donor.)
4.  Special application is required that is available at the Vantage House.

Applicants must be a first or second year clinical nursing student. Applicant must demonstrate clinical competence, kindness, understanding and compassion. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in nursing

courses.

Applicants must be enrolled in the clinical portion of nursing. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Preference given to a working single parent. Applicant must be pursuing an AA degree either full-time or part-time in nursing. Preference given to non-traditional students. Will cover tuition and fees only. Applicant must demonstrate financial need.

Applicant must be a first or second year clinical nursing student. Applicants must be at least 25 years or older and a single parent. Applicants must have completed most prerequisite courses prior to the beginning of the nursing curriculum. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

MedStar Health Scholarship Fund

Academic standing, financial need, preferable a second year student. Additional criteria: students may obtain degree in several related health fields (nursing, radiology tech and cardio tech) student must work at least one year at a MedStar facility upon completion of program; students responsible to pay back scholarship monies if all requirements are not completed.

Applicants that are bilingual and planning to work at Howard County General Hospital preferred. Easy going, caring and dedicated personality preferred.

Environmental Endowment

Applicants with environmental goals that have contributed to environmental issues. Financial need preferred. Minimum GPA of 2.5.

Leadership Howard County Endowment

Open to residents of Howard County who are currently active volunteers or plan to get involved at a Howard County non-profit organization. A letter confirming volunteering services will be required from the head of the nonprofit organization. Must demonstrate financial need.

Applicants must be enrolled full time in an AA degree in interdisciplinary studies/women's issues concentration. The applicant must be sympathetic and empathetic to women's issues, have a record of service to women’s issues and plans to use her education to advance the interests of women. Two letters of recommendations and additional application required. GPA of 2.5. (Director of Women’s Studies)
