Application Process
To apply, please complete the following:
- Complete the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority deadline for completing the FAFSA is January 4, 2010. NSF applications received after January 4, 2010 will be considered on a space available basis.
- Complete the 2009-2010 National Science Foundation Scholarship Application.
- Compose an essay (written by the applicant, 450-500 words, typed, double-spaced) explaining your interest in your field of study and your qualifications and/or need for this award.
- Complete Howard Community College’s Placement Exam or submit appropriate SAT, ACT or AP scores or demonstrate completion of college level English or math.
- Submit a letter of recommendation or the 2009-2010 NSF Science & Technology Recommendation Form. Students who have previously submitted letters of recommendations and/or transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Advising do not need to re-submit their documents.*
- Submit official transcript (high school or college, as appropriate).*
*Students who have previously submitted letters of recommendations and/or transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Advising may use these for their NSF application if they wish. Simply indicate that these are on file with the Office of Admissions and Advising.

**The FAFSA must be submitted electronically via the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) web site as instructed in step 1 above. Please include HCC's school code (008175) to ensure that the USDOE forwards an electronic copy of your FAFSA results to HCC's Financial Aid Services Office.
