Why do I have to submit a tax return transcript directly from the IRS instead of using my personal copy?

Regulations that govern financial aid policy change frequently. Effective 2012-2013, students who are required to sumit federal tax return information to complete the review process of verification must request a federal tax return transcript directly from the IRS.

What if I was selected for verification and I [or my spouse, or parent(s)] did not file taxes but are not required to file federal taxes?

If you are selected for verification but you [or my spouse, or parent(s)] did not file taxes and are not required to file taxes based on IRS tax code (see IRS Pub 17), you will be required to complete the HCC Verification Worksheet.  Please follow the instructions printed on the Verification Worksheet located in the HCC Forms Library. Financial Aid services will notify you via email if you need to submit additional information.

What if I was selected for verification and I [or my spouse, or parent(s)] did not file taxes but are required to file taxes?

If you were selected for verification and you [or my spouse, or parent(s)] did not file taxes and are required to file taxes based on IRS tax code (see IRS Pub 17), you [or your spouse, or parent(s)] will need to sumbit the required federal tax return information to HCC one of 2 ways: 1) make a correction to the tax information using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool OR 2) provide a copy of the require federal tax return transcripts directly from the IRS.

You will also be required to complete the HCC Verification Worksheet.  Please read and follow the instructions printed on the Verification Worksheet located in the HCC Forms Library. Financial Aid services will notify you via email if you need to submit additional information.
