1098-T InformationIf you received a 1098T from Howard Community College, you may be eligible for the Hope Scholarship or Life time learning tax credits. Please read this message in it’s entirety as it may answer any questions you have and will provide information on where to obtain explanations of the requirements for any deductions or education credits that you may claim. The college staff is neither qualified nor able to provide tax advice concerning this calculation.
The IRS has given educational institutions the option of reporting amounts received for qualified tuition and related expenses, box 1 of the form, or total amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses, box 2 of the form. HCC has chosen to report total amounts billed. By referring to the back of the tax form 1098T you can get a detailed description of what is included in each box. Please refer to your registration statements and paid tuition receipts dated January 1, 2007, through December 31, 2007, for information that is specific to your account.
The information provided on the 1098-T that is your name, address and social security number is the information that is currently on file in our data base. If any change is needed to this information, you must do this through the Office of Admissions and Advising or the Office of Records and Registration. If you need copies of your paid tuition receipts or your financial aid awarded in 2007, please send a written request with the specific term information which you are requesting to the following address:
