Nursing Exams

HCC Test Center administers the Evolve Clinical Nursing Admissions Assessment (CNAA) and the HESI LPN-RN Mobility exam to current students wishing to enroll in our Nursing and Allied Health Programs.  Nursing candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the Nursing and Allied Health Website for detailed and specific requirements for individual programs.  Below, candidates will find helpful information about the CNAA and Mobility exams.

     HESI LPN-RN Mobility Exam

Evolve Clinical Nursing Admissions Assessment (CNAA)

The CNAA is required for admission into the Accelerated, Traditional, and LPN Programs. It is a computer-based exam that tests English, Math, and Science knowledge. Accelerated and Traditional Nursing candidates have 5 hours to complete the assessment; LPN candidates have 4.5 hours to complete the assessment. Students must receive a score of 70 or above to successfully meet admission requirements.

Before Taking Your CNAA:

  • All candidates MUST set up an Evolve Account before testing.Click here for step-by-step instructions. If you already have an account, please make sure to bring that information.
  • Study guide material is available in the bookstore; if you would like to use study material while on campus, the HCC Library has reference material available for on campus use only.
  • Watch the CNAA PowerPoint presentation below to learn more about what to expect on your test day.

On Exam Day:

  • Make sure you bring a current photo ID and your Evolve account information.
  • The Test Center will admit CNAA candidates between 9:00AM-10:00AM. If you arrive after 10:00AM, you may need to reschedule your exam.
  • The Test Center will provide all materials needed to complete your exam: simple calculator, scrap paper, and pencils.

After Completing your CNAA:

  • Test Center staff highly recommend you meet with a nursing advisor if you do not pass your exam or if you have additional questions pertaining to the nursing program at HCC. Advisors will go over your test results and let you know what to expect next.
  • Evolve has wonderful remediation resources available to candidates. These resources allow the creation of individualized study packets to help a candidate review topics to help increase knowledge before retesting or beginning a nursing program. HESI LPN-RN Mobility Exam

The HESI LPN-RN Mobility Exam is an assessment that practicing LPN candidates take if they would like to transition into HCC's nursing programs. It is a computer-based test that covers a number of topics, such as the following:

  • Basic Fundamentals
  • Medical
  • Surgical
  • Maternity
  • Pediatric
  • Psychiatric Nursing

Candidates have 3 hours to take the assessment. Candidates must receive a 750% or 70% to sucessfully meet admission requirements.

Before Taking the HESI Mobility Exam:

  • To save time on exam day, Test Center staff recommend you set up an Evolve account before testing. Click here for step-by-step instructions. If you already have an account, please make sure to bring that information.
  • LPN-RN candidates are highly encouraged to review NCLEX-PN materials before testing, as there are a number of topics covered that you may not encounter each day as a practicing LPN. There are no study guides currently available for this exam.

On Exam Day:

  • Make sure you bring a current photo ID and your Evolve account information on your exam day.
  • The HESI Mobility exam is only offered during the following times each test session:

          Monday, Wednesday & Thursday from 9:00AM-5:00PM

          Tuesday from 12:00AM-5:00PM

          Friday from 9:00AM-12:00PM

  • The Test Center will provide all materials needed: simple calculator, scrap paper and pencils.
