When may I begin to seek advising? Advising is available to student athletes all year long. One week is set aside each semester for student athletes to be advised and registered. Why should I attend academic advising and register early? These advising sessions provide you the opportunity to:
I am busy this semester and would prefer to wait until the end of the semester to register. Is this OK?
What should I do if it is impossible for me to attend my scheduled advising session? You are strongly encouraged and welcomed to come to the Office of Admissions and Advising during our walk-in hours and meet with one of our advisors. Just let them know that you are a student athlete. If you are unable to come in during our walk in hours you may make an appointment with an advisor at a time convenient for both of you. What is the process for advising and registration during student athlete advising weeks?
Attention: If you do not register following your advising session then your opportunity for keeping your schedule may have been lost. I am unable to pay if I register early. What should I do? Student athletes who register early do not need to pay immediately. Your advisor will tell you when payment for your classes is due. Does Howard Community College have a payment plan? Yes, Howard Community College has a payment plan known as FACTS. We will have information available to you during your advising sessions. How many credits do I need to register for each semester as a student athlete? In order to stay eligible to play in your chosen sport, you must register for and complete a minimum of 12 credits each semester. You must complete 24 credits each academic year that you are a student athlete. May I stay eligible to play my sport if I do not complete a minimum of 12 credits during the semester? If you do not meet the eligibility requirements of completing 12 academic credits per semester or 24 academic credits per year, you will not be eligible to participate in your sport. If you plan to compete in your chosen sport in the upcoming semester and you have not completed 12 credits your previous semester, you must register for a course(s) during Winter session in order to compete in Spring term or during the summer sessions to compete in the fall term to meet the minimum credit requirements. |
