The Howard Community College Educational Foundation, Inc. (HCCEF) maintains endowments and scholarships established through generous contributions from businesses, foundations, civic organizations and individuals. Scholarship criteria differs and may or may not include financial need, academic merit, learning program, special skills or talent, and other.

There are many opportunities here. You are strongly encouraged to review them and apply for as many as possible. And remember, if you are lucky enough to be chosen as a recipient of a scholarship, you are required to write a thank you note.

  • Application Process

    APPLICATION PROCESS

    1. Students must submit the 2017-2018 online application to be considered for a 2017-2018 HCCEF scholarship. Students will be required to set up a scholarship application account ("Sign Up" tab on website). Students who submitted an application last year will click "Sign In". The application requires a 500 word essay defining: career and educational goals and the benefits of a college education. 

    2. Some scholarships are considered need-based and students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who are applying for financial aid, including scholarships, are encouraged to complete the Financial Aid 
    2017-2018 Application Process in order to maximize their financial aid resources. The March 1, 2017 priority filing date is for students to be considered for certain Maryland state and institutional assistance.

    3. Priority is given to students enrolling for the Fall 2017 semester who complete the Howard Community College Educational Foundation, Inc. (HCCEF) application process by the June 1 priority filing date each year. Students are encouraged to still submit an application after the priority deadline. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis after the priority filing date until all funds have been awarded for the academic year, or January 31, 2018. The status of the scholarships will be updated regularly on the scholarship criteria page.

    4. Students who earned less than 12 college credits are required to submit an unofficial high school transcript. Students who earned college credit from another institution and earned less than 12 credits at HCC are required to submit an unofficial transcript(s) from previous colleges. Copies of required transcripts must be submitted to Financial Aid Services. Current students who have earned more than 12 credits at HCC are not required to submit an HCC transcript.

    Please note: A full-time student schedule for either the fall or spring semesters generally consists of 12 to 18 credit hours. Only students who are enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours will be considered. Awards are granted for the fall and spring semesters.

  • Online Application
    To apply for or accept an HCCEF scholarship, you will need to sign into the HCC Scholarship website.The first time that you are using the scholarship website, you will need to sign up for a scholarship account.
  • Saying Thank You
    Scholarships are funded through the generous contributions of donors and sponsors. If you are the lucky recipient of a scholarship, you are expected to write a letter of thanks and submit with your Scholarship FERPA Form. You simply provide the letter to the Financial Aid Services Office. No need for a stamp or envelope.

    • Your program of study at HCC
    • Why college is important to you
    • Organizations in which you participate
    • Volunteer work
    • Current or future Internship participation
    • Your future plans
    Be sure to use the correct and full name of the scholarship(s) you were offered in your letter
     
    Beware of grammatical and spelling errors - always proofread
     
    Be sure to sign your thank you letter and print your name under your signature
