  • Military and VA FAQ

Can I use my benefits at two institutions simultaneously?
Yes! You may use our benefits at another institution as long as the courses apply to your degree. Before visiting at another school, get permission from your HCC advisor and a HCC VA School Certifying Official. Your VA rep will tell you what to do next.

I am transferring to HCC want to use my VA benefits. What do I do?
Submit Request for Change of Program or Place of Training with the online VA application for educational benefits (VA Form 22-1995 or VA Form 22-5495). Then follow the steps to use your GI Bill® benefits.

What areas of study have been approved by the VA and for which courses will the VA pay?
All associate degree and certificate programs are approved for VA Educational Benefits.  You can only declare one program at a time.  Courses required for your program of study, including developmental courses, will be paid for by the VA.

Which continuing education programs are designated as VA approved?
Project Management Professional Certification and Certified Nursing Assistant. Learn more about these programs at howardcc.edu/coned.

Can I apply for financial aid in addition to using my VA benefits?
Yes! Start by completing the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA). HCC’s school code is 008175. Applying for financial aid is required step for veterans and dependents to ensure that you receive a breakdown of all forms of financial aid available to you.  Financial planning tools and resources, such as the College Scorecard and College Navigator, are available on our Financial Aid Services website.

Do I have to pay up front if I’m using my benefits?
No way!  HCC provides service members, veterans, and dependents special financial arrangements.  To use this incentive, complete the GI Bill® & Tuition Assistance Promissory Note

How do I find out how much of my benefits I have left?
You can see how many benefits you’ve used and what benefits remain by visiting your eBenefits account.

Are there scholarships for the military community?
You bet!  Scholarships for the military community are available in addition to the full complement of scholarships for all HCC students.

Giving makes a difference! Your support helps students along their pathways to success.
