
PROGRAM Study abroad and enjoy a unique opportunity to earn college credit while traveling in the republic of Turkey. Howard Community College, Delaware Technical and Community College, Northampton Community College and Davidson Community College are collaborating with Istanbul University and Ankara University, the most prestigious universities in Turkey, to offer this study abroad program. During the two-week overseas program, you will be immersed in the social and cultural aspects of this fascinating country. Enrollment is limited to 18 students, with 10 from Howard Community College. Program Leader: Fredericl Campbell, History, Howard Community College Eligibility • Must be 18 years old Selection Criteria Pre-acceptance interview with the International Education Office selection committee. Those selected will attend mandatory orientation meetings prior to departure. SCHEDULE The tour will start in Istanbul, with students getting the opportunity to experience a cosmopolitan city rich in history. Here participants will visit some of the oldest mosques in the world, including the breathtaking Blue Mosque. Also on the itinerary is Topkapi Palace, home to the Ottoman sultans for more than 400 years, and a highlight of last year’s itinerary. And no trip to Istanbul would be complete without a visit to its Grand Bazaar, Turkey’s largest covered market. After Istanbul, the group will head to Turkey’s capital, Ankara, and then south to excursion locations. Along the way, students will be able to visit Turkish colleges, and even get to sit in on classes and participate. Last year, the students formed bonds with Turkish students and faculty alike, exchanging phone numbers and making friends for a lifetime. CREDITS All participants must register and pay for the "Issue in History" course HIST- 202. Do not register until accepted into the program. DETAILS The cost of the program is $3,000* ($1000 Scholarship available). The $3,000* cost per person includes: • Roundtrip airfare from N.Y. or Washington D.C. * HCC reserves the right to increase the cost of the Program Fee up to 10% due to increased program costs, increased flight costs, and/or, currency fluctuations.
