Turkey-Culture Study Abroad


Study abroad and enjoy a unique opportunity to earn college credit while traveling in the republic of Turkey. Howard Community College, Harrisburg Community College, and Northampton Community College, and NorthWest Arkansas Community College are collaborating with Cankiri University in Turkey, to offer this study abroad program. During the two-week overseas program, you will be immersed in the social and cultural aspects of this fascinating country.

Enrollment is limited to 18 students, with 4 from Howard Community College.

• Must be 18 years old or older.
• Full or Part-time student, registering for the Turkey-Culture Study Abroad Program for credit.
• Applications must be completed and submitted to the Office of International Education, CL 113 no later than February 24, 2015.
• A $500 deposit is due with the application; deposit will be refunded if not selected.
• If selected, recipients will receive a $2000 partial scholarship from the International Education Office.
• A valid passport is required. If applicant does not have a valid passport, be advised that a 4-6 week waiting period and about a  $140 fee is required to obtain a passport. Applicants are strongly advised to apply for passport immediately.

Selection Criteria
Pre-acceptance interview with the International Education Office selection committee. Those selected will attend mandatory orientation meetings prior to departure.

Cappadocia (2 Days)

Konya (1 Day)

Pamukkale & Hierapolis (2 Days)

Izmir & Ephesus (3 Days)

NOTE: An updated itinerary will be provided during orientation.  Schedule is subject to change at all times>


All HCC participants will be registered and must pay for the Introduction to Sociology, SOCI-101. 


The cost of the program is $4,200* ($2000 Partial Scholarship available).

The $4,200* cost per person includes:

• Roundtrip airfare
• Transportation to and from airport in Turkey
• Accommodations in Istanbul, Cankiri & Ankara, Cappadocia, Konya, Pamukkale & Hierapolis, and Izmir & Ephesus. (Hotels and student dormitories are equipped to local standards.  Double Occupancy)
• Some meals
• Scheduled study-field excursions
• Use of Cankiri University student facilities

Additional Cost not included in the program fees:

  •  Visa (about $20)/Passport
  •  Some meals
  • Personal Expenses​

* HCC reserves the right to increase the cost of the Program Fee up to 10% due to increased program costs, increased flight costs, and/or, currency fluctuations.

Additional tuition fees required for SOCI-101, Introduction to Sociology (3 Credits), and SABR-910, Turkey Culture Study Abroad Program (1 credit)

Note: If you do not make payment on time you will automatically be dropped from the program will not be able to re-register.
