Italy Culture Study AbroadPROGRAM
Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland is pleased to offer a Study Abroad program in Tuscany with the opportunity to earn college credit while living in self-catering apartments in the historic center of Florence. Included in the program are planned excursions to Fiesole, Siena, San Gimignano, Rome and a cooking class.
The program is open to students and community members on either a credit or non-credit basis. Students wishing to earn credit will complete a personal journal with observations chosen for study by Professor Mooney. There will be on- site lectures which will take advantage of being at the scene of the actual works of art and architecture. Note that all participants, including those taking the program for non-credit are expected to participate in all activities of the program.
The program is designated to have a balance of planned and free time to allow participants to pursue their areas of interest.
SCHEDULE
Day 1- Departure Day.
Day 2- Arrival in Florence, Italy.
Day 3- Orientation and Walking tour of the historic center.
Day 4- Piazzale Michelangelo and San Miniato.
Day 5- Florence Baptistery , Santa Croce and Etruscan town of Fiesole.
Day 6- Florence Cathedral, Ospedale Degli Innocente, San Lorenzo, and Palazzo Medici-Riccardi.
Day 7- Bapistery North Doors , Competition Doors and or SanMichele.
Day 8- Excursion to Siena and San Gimignano.
Day 9- Excursion to Rome.
Day 10- Free Day.
Day 11- Palazzo Rucellai, Santa Maria Novella and Capella Brancacci.
Day 12- Bargello Museum.
Day 13- Museo dell’Opera dei Duomo.
Day 14- Uffizi Museum.
Day 15- Cooking Class.
Day 16- Free Day.
Day 17- Free Day.
Day 18- Santa Trinita Church.
Day 19- Academia ( Michelangelo’s David).
Day 20- San Marco Monastery.
Day 21- Study Day.
Day 22- Farewell Dinner.
Day 23- Departure Day.
CREDITS
FINE 102-701: Italian Renaissance Art and Architecture.This course acquaints the student with major works of Florentine painting, sculpture and architecture from the late Middle Ages through the Early Renaissance and the beginning phases of the High Renaissance. The entire course is taught on-site. The focus is to relate the art and architecture viewed, to the history and culture from which it emerged. Mandatory excursions to nearby Tuscan towns and Rome complement the lectures held in Florence and fill the picture of the evolution of Renaissance art. DETAILS
The fee for the trip is $3650*(Limited financial aid is available for HCC credit students).
The $3650 cost includes:

• Housing in self-catering apartments.
• Museum Pass.
• Farewell Dinner.
Additional costs not included in the program:
• Meals
• Personal spending money for shopping
• Any excursions that students may undertake during free time.
* HCC reserves the right to increase the cost of the Program Fee up to 10% due to increased program costs, increased flight costs, and/or currency fluctuations.
