Mission Statement of the Study Abroad
The purpose of this workshop is to allow each individual to experience painting the landscape under the guidance of the artist, Peter Collier. An honest and encouraging critique of the individual’s painting will address the strengths and weaknesses in regards to landscape painting in order to maximize the student’s painting skills and abilities in order to facilitate the learning experience.
Schedule
Sunday-Get used to area and time change.
Monday-Paint vista of Villars. Lecture on perspective of town in distance.
Tuesday-Paint vista of Villars. Check painting for perspective of town and review and discuss issues with color of mountains.
Wednesday-Paint vista of Villars. Final crit of this painting.
Thursday-AM – Market day in Rousellian. Start painting of buildings in town of Villars.
Friday-Work on Painting of Villars. Lecture on buildings up close.
Saturday-Market day in Apt. Free day to either work on painting 2 or go back and resolve painting 1.
Sunday-Work on painting 2. Lecture on adding cars and/or people to painting.
Monday-Finish painting 2. Final crit on both paintings.
Tuesday-AM – Market day in St. Saturnin or Free day. Start painting 3 – Vineyard from house in Villar or Poppy field or vista of St. Saturnin. Crit in evening – discussion by student on why they picked this location and what they are hoping to learn from the experience.
Wednesday-Work on Painting 3. Extensive Crit on this painting.
Thursday-Free day to travel or draw. Individual review of the paintings.
Friday-Prepare to leave.
Day to day reference for France trip:
9:00–10:00 am: Peter is at site location to help with any set up issues or discuss any issues still unresolved from discussion night befor 9:30: Students set up.
10:00 –2:30 pm: Students paint.
2:15-3:15 pm: Peter returns to site location to
discuss any issues that need resolved at the site.
2:30-5:00 pm: Lunch and free time to travel to local
towns (mostly everything is closed from noon until 2:30).
5:00-7:45 pm: Crit Brenda will cook dinner for the group during the crit.
8:00 pm: Dinner.
CREDITS
HCC students who wish to receive college credits need to register for the appropriate Art course before going to France (see HCC Summer Credit Schedule of Classes). Students from other colleges and universities who want to receive credit for the course must get written permission from the appropriate department (Arts and Humanities) of their school prior to program departure.
DETAILS
The fee for the trip is approximately $1500*.(Financial aid is available for HCC credit Students.)
The $1500* includes:
-Shared housing
-Artist Fee
-Some Meals
*Airfaire and ground transportation are not included in the program fee.
HCC reserves the right to increase the cost of the program fee up to 10% due to increased program costs, increased flight costs, and/or, currency fluctuations.
