France Art Studio Study Abroad

PROGRAM

Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland is pleased to offer a Study Abroad program in Provence France with the opportunity to earn college credit while living and creating art that reflects the landscape in self-catering apartments in the beautiful Luberon Mountains of Provence.

The program is open to students and community members on either a credit or non-credit basis. Note that all participants, including those taking the program for non-credit are expected to participate in all activities of the program. The program is designed to have a balance of planned and free time to allow participants to visit and explore the beautiful towns of Provence.

MISSION STATEMENT OF THE PROGRAM:

The purpose of this workshop is to allow each individual to experience painting or drawing the landscape under the guidance of the artist, Professor Peter Collier.  An honest and encouraging critique of the individual’s artwork will address the strengths and weaknesses in regards to their work in
order to maximize the student’s  skills and abilities in order to facilitate the learning experience.
There will be group and individual critiques offered.  The medias used on the trip can be oil, watercolor, pastel, charcoal or pencil.

SCHEDULE

The actual daily schedule is dependant on the weather.  It is usual and expected that each participant work on their landscape in their desired media at least 9 of the 14 days.  A work session is based on the participants expectations.  Credit students will be supplied with a written syllabus for this trip. 

CREDITS

HCC students who wish to receive college credits need to register for the appropriate Art course before going to France (see HCC Summer Credit Schedule of Classes). Students from other colleges and universities who want to receive credit for the course must get written permission from the appropriate department (Arts and Humanities) of their school prior to program departure.

The cost for the program is $1,800*
(Limited financial aid is available for HCC credit students).

The $1,800* cost includes:
•8 Dinners
•Housing in self-catering apartments

Additional costs not included in the program:
•Roundtrip Airfare
•Health Insurance
•Ground transportation
•Personal spending money for shopping
•Any excursions that students may undertake during free time.

*HCC reserves the right to increase the cost of the program fee up to 10% due to increased program costs, increased flight costs, and/or, currency fluctuations.
