EDUC-202 Methods of Teaching Reading in the Secondary Content Areas, Part 1

This course is designed specifically for secondary school teachers as it outlines the essentials of the reading process necessary for secondary students to become proficient learners of content. Types of reading, elements of assessment, skills of the reading process, the incorporation of reading instruction into content delivery and the affective aspects of the processes of reading will be examined.

Prerequisites   This course meets the Part I certification requirements of the
State of Maryland in the area of secondary teacher education
in reading.

  • Meet the Part I certification requirements of the State of Maryland in the area of secondary education in reading
  • Recognize and appreciate the relationship between reading and learning skills

Course Requirements

  • Twelve quizzes, each consisting of 10 multiple choice questions and short essay questions.
  • Reading lesson plan and various reading strategy assignments
  • Online group discussions
