BMGT 151 Business Law (Online)

Students will be introduced to basic legal concepts and their application to business institutions. Topics covered include introduction to law, the court system, administrative law, torts, contracts, crimes, warranties, and sales transactions under Uniform Commercial Code Article 2.

Overall Course Objectives

Once you have completed this course you will be able to:

  • Students will be familiar with the basic structure of our legal system and its impact on business transactions.
  • Students will have a working knowledge of the substantive areas of law, commercial litigation, torts, contracts and sales.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate a working understanding of business law by analyzing and articulating legal issues in writing.

Course Format

  • Is not self-paced.
  • Does not require on-campus meetings except for Test Center exams.
  • Does not require real-time chats.
  • The communication in this class will take place through e-mails and scheduled posted threaded discussion questions. The posting dates of the threaded discussion questions will be listed in the course assignment schedule.
  • I will provide you with an email message and orientation about the specific Business Law I course requirements, assignment dates, discussion dates, and examinations. Do not worry if we have a slight delay in getting on track during the first few days of class while I am acquiring proper email addresses for all enrolled students. You will not miss anything that will be detrimental to your performance in the course.

Orientation

This course does not have a face-to-face orientation.

Course Requirements

  • Review the “What you should know before you register” section of the Distance Learning Homepage.
  • Three (3) exams are administered on the dates and times set forth in the Course Schedule (typically at four week intervals)
  • Several written assignments and a Case Brief will be required.

Exams

Tests will be given in the HCC Test Center in accordance with the instructor schedule within a flexible window of time.
