For the Center for Service Learning's 2014 Alternative Winter Break, students traveled to the Dominican Republic to Outreach360 (click to access their website) to volunteer in local schools providing education and opportunities to disadvantaged children.

The Outreach360 volunteers for the week sit in rows of colorful plastic chairs outside under and awning.

The week began with volunteer orientation.

The students were given time each day to create a lesson plan for English class which they would teach in the classrooms.  The kids had a lot of energy, and our students had a blast playing with them and teaching!

Our AWB participants lead the classroom in an English vocabulary lesson.

Herman and Jacob lead a lesson in English vocabulary while the other students and volunteers pay close attention.

AWB participant Priscilla stands in front of a classroom of onlooking studentsm as she leads a lesson.

Priscilla leads the class in a lesson, calling upon volunteers to answer.

Raz and Herman sit on a sidewalk edge, playing with some of the students from the elementary school.

Even with all the learning, our AWB participants found time for play.  Here, Raz and Herman interact with students during a break.

The 2014 winter break trip was a great experience.  Our thanks to the dedicated students and advisors who participated!
