I welcome each of you to the Math Division at HCC, whether you are new or returning students.  My focus this semester will be to do all that I can to enable your success, providing that you are willing to put the time in to learn the material.  Please drop in during any of my office hours so that I can get to know you -- if you are unable to make those I will be happy to set up an individual appointment.

How to succeed in my classes:

• Come to class and participate.  
• Set up a study schedule so you have the appropriate time available to work on your course.  The general rule of thumb for college courses is 2-3 hours for every hour that you spend in class.
• Get the phone numbers of people in your class, and, when appropriate, form study groups.  It is much easier to get beyond being 'stuck' when you are working with others.
• Attempt each of the homework problems. If you are having trouble with a concept or a problem, or an entire subject, please let me know.  As an HCC student, you have many free resources available to you, including:
  - free tutoring at the math lab 
  - free tutoring in the Learning Assistance Center 
  - my office hours  
  - your classmates
  - and more ....
