Cardiovascular Technology Program OptionsVarying admissions policies and procedures apply for each CVT option. Please refer to the appropriate option to determine which policies and procedures apply to you. It is important to note the following about each:
Option 1: Associate in Applied Science degree in Cardiovascular Technology – Invasive Option (#114 on HCC's standard application form)
Admission to this program will be based on the completion of prerequisite coursework with a grade of "C" or higher. Official transcripts must be sent to the office for evaluation of coursework. Baseline selection criteria have been established based upon the skills and competencies required to be successful in this highly technical and demanding program. Students will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis. Exceptions to these admissions policies will be made on a case-by-case basis only. A separate supplemental application is required for Option 1.
Option 2: Certificate of Proficiency in Cardiac Monitoring and Analysis – Noninvasive Option (#115 on HCC's standard application form)
Standard application and placement testing procedures apply. Admission to this program will be based on the completion of prerequisite coursework. Students will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis. Exceptions to these admissions policies will be made on a case-by-case basis only. A separate supplemental application is required for Option 2.
Option 3: Certificate of Proficiency in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging and Interventional Therapy (#116 on HCC's standard application form)
Only certified radiographers and radiologic technologists may apply. Documentation of education and a copy of Radiologic Technologist Licensing and/or Registration are both required. Students will be seated on a first come, first served basis. Exceptions to these policies will be made on a case-by-case basis only. There is a separate Supplemental Application for Option 3.
Option 4: Certificate of Proficiency in Cardiovascular Technology for Allied Health Professionals -(#128 on HCC's standard application form)
Admission to this program will be based on verification of specific courses prior to enrollment in the CVT courses. Official transcripts must be received by the Office for evaluation of course work. Students will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis. Exceptions to these policies will be made on a case-by-case basis only. There is a separate Supplemental Application for Option 4.
Option 5: Certificate of Proficiency in Accelerated Cardiovascular Technology for Hospital Trainees - (#134 on HCC's standard application form)
Admission to this program is only open at this time to employees of hospitals currently affiliated with HCC`s Accelerated CVT Certificate Program. Admission to this particular program will be granted through the employing institution and these students will be enrolled in HCC's CVT courses with the support of the employing institution. All CVT clinical work will be done on site at that institution.
Admissions Process
Regardless of the option selected, ALL applicants must do the following:
Step 1: Before taking courses at Howard Community College, you must be admitted. General Admission to Howard Community College.
Completing Step I will result in admission to the college. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to selective or competitive CVT program options.
Step 2: Attend a Cardiovascular Technology Information Session. This may be arranged by contacting the Office of Admissions and Advising in L-130 (410/772-4856) or contact the program director, Patti English penglish@howardcc.edu.
Step 3: Students must have a current CPR card prior to entering the CVT Program. Certification must be current for the duration of the program.

Submit a copy of the card to the Health Sciences Division Office (ST-149) by December 15th.
Step 4: Work with your Licensed Health Care Provider to complete the Health Science Division Health Form and submit it, along with documentation of vaccinations and immunizations, to the Health Sciences Division Office (ST-149) by December 15th.

Advanced Placement into Cardiovascular Programs
OPTION I: CARDIOVASCULAR TECHNOLOGY A.A.S. DEGREE
Graduates of two and four-year Allied Health programs may be eligible for advanced standing into CARD courses, upon successful transfer or completion of a math core course, PHYS-101, Anatomy & Physiology course work and enrollment in CHEM-101 (or CHEM-103) or equivalent. All applicants must meet current college admission requirements and complete required Cardiovascular Technology (CARD), math and science courses with a grade of "C" or above.
OPTION 2: CARDIAC MONITORING AND ANALYSIS CERTIFICATE
For students in the Cardiac Monitoring and Analysis Certificate Program to receive advanced standing into CARD-101 and CARD-108, the following criteria are recommended for defining eligibility:

OPTION 3: ADVANCED CARDIOVASCULAR IMAGING AND INTERVENTIONAL THERAPIES CERTIFICATE
No Advanced placement is available: this program is for Radiologic Technologists only.
OPTION 4: CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN CARDIOVASCULAR TECHNOLOGY FOR ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
