Why We Conference

One-on-One Conferencing elicits feelings of happiness and satisfaction.  This means that students feel they are able to accomplish their goals and have their needs met.  In “See Me:  Conference Strategies for Developmental Writers,”   Linda Boynton writes that individual conferences allow for more focused feedback than written comments, allowing students to learn more.  Boynton also writes that conferences prepare students to become participants in the academic community by teaching students to discuss their ideas and to explain the choices they have made in their writing.

The accompanying links incorporate Boynton’s strategies for conferencing effectively with developmental writers.
