Does each body paragraph have a clear topic sentence?

Are all of the details presented in the essay relevant and support the topic sentence and thesis?

Is the essay logically organized?

Have you used transitions effectively so that the essay reads smoothly and is coherent?


Does the introduction grab the reader’s attention?

Are the body paragraphs well supported with major and minor details?

Does the conclusion wrap up the essay and leave the reader satisfied?

Is the language appropriate for the specified audience?

Are your sentences free of fragments, fused sentences, or comma splices?
Is the wording of your sentences clear?
Is the essay free of serious grammatical errors?
Are words throughout the document spelled correctly?
