Karen began teaching part-time at Howard Community College in 2007. She joined the English/World Languages Division as a full-time instructor in 2010. Karen took classes as a student at HCC before moving on to finish her MS from Johns Hopkins University. At HCC, she teaches ESL and developmental reading and writing courses as well as the First-Year Experience course. Karen’s interests include teaching reading strategies to prepare ESL and developmental students for the demands of college-level courses, as well as developing innovative ways to use technology in the classroom.
In addition to teaching, Karen serves as the coordinator of the English 093 and English 094 courses, and is also an eLearning Coordinator for the English/World Languages Division. She participates in the Universal Design Faculty/Professional Learning Community. Karen is also part of the English Placement team and is a Step UP Coach.
