After several years working part-time in the Writing Lab, Rita transitioned to a full-time position in 1984. This allowed her to address her love of literature as well as writing. She created two new courses: By and AboutWomen (a women’s literature course) and Science through Science Fiction, originally an honors course combining scientific presentations with literary analysis. She also designed a composition course based on writings by well-known peace activists. She continues to enjoy the opportunity to engage students in learning about their own lives both through writing and through the study of literature.
