A parade of letters, bursting into words on paper, opened the eyes of Claudia Samantha Dugan and her –then young- classmates to the possibility of teaching. Claudia Samantha and her friends were part of a group of young Mexican volunteers in a service-learning project with a focus on teaching basic literacy skills to adult learners. Claudia Samantha, felt so enriched by the experience that she decided to pursue a career that would allow her to continuously participate in environments where learning takes place. In México, and also when she moved to Maryland, she has had various opportunities to teach in formal and informal settings. Some of her teaching positions include working for a Language Company that served diplomats and executives in the Washington, D.C. area. In addition to serving as one of the certified interpreters for the Howard County Public school system, she also had the opportunity to teach full time at the Howard County Public School system from 2006 to 2010.

She joined Howard Community College first as an adjunct instructor and then later as full-time faculty and one of the World Languages Program Coordinators. Claudia Samantha enjoys the supportive culture of Howard Community College and its emphasis in discovering greatness in self and others. Claudia Samantha serves as a board member of the Maryland Foreign Language Association and is also a member of some Howard County community organizations.

Claudia Samantha began her college education at the National University of México before she moved to Maryland. Claudia Samantha Dugan graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in History with a minor in Psychology from College of Notre Dame of Maryland and with a M.A. in Leadership in Education from what is now Notre Dame of Maryland University. When Claudia Samantha Dugan is not working she enjoys, among other things, spending time with family and friends, dancing flamenco, gardening, reading, eating chocolates and traveling with her family.
