Mission Statement

The Howard Community College Theatre program is committed to helping students discover their creative potential through the interpretational arts of acting, singing, dancing, writing, research, and technical theater.  The program seeks to expose students to the wide range of skills and practices necessary for live theater and to encourage students in critical thinking skills and artistic innovation.

The AA degree in Theater has three concentrations: performance, musical theatre, and theatre studies.  HCC students have many opportunities to be a part of a cast and crew of the Theatre program productions.  Students may also work with Rep Stage, the Helen Hayes award-winning professional theater in residence, and the Arts Collective, a robust community theatre in residence which produces plays, musicals, and dance concerts.

Taking Risks and Enjoying the Journey

Our program offers excellent theatre opportunities in a nurturing environment that encourages team work, self-discovery, risk-taking, and a strong work ethic.  The program seeks to enrich the greater community through a variety of performances, which includes a fall production, spring Shakespeare performance, and staged readings.  Our diverse faculty who are known both as excellent teachers and actors in the DC/Baltimore area will also perform with students, alumni, and guest artists once each year in a faculty presentation of scenes, songs, and stage combat.

Please check our Calendar/Events for upcoming performances and special events. If you have questions about our program, please send an email to Jenny Male, Coordinator of Theatre, at JMale@howardcc.edu or call 443-518-4298.
