New Classroom Logon Procedure for Instructor Stations

Starting with the Fall 2005 term, all classroom instructor-station PCs will boot up with a log-on screen.  This change has been implemented to allow faculty to access network resources from every classroom on campus.  Prior to the Fall 2005 semester, log-on and network protocols differed by building.  Now, you can put materials into a shared drive from your office computer and later access them from your classroom.

When prompted at the log-on screen, faculty must do one of two simple actions in order for the computer to complete the boot up process:

  • Just click “OK” (or press the return key) – This default login will allow for full use of the PC and for Internet access, but no access to shared drives.

OR

  • Enter your Outlook user name and password and click “OK” – this option enables instructors to access shared networked drives (G, Q, or W).  An example is pictured below.  (Please remember to make sure that HCCMAIN is selected, although it should be the default.)

About The W Drive and Other Network Drives

·         The W drive allows faculty to store files using their office computer, or the computers in the adjunct faculty offices, and access those files through the classroom instructor stations.

·         Phase 2 of the W drive implementation will allow faculty to access the W drive from home over the Internet.  This password-protected environment will allow faculty to save files to the drive from home for use in the classroom.

·         30 MB of storage will be allocated on the W drive for each instructor.  The hope is to increase the amount of available storage over time.

·         The W drive is set up so that faculty can only access the materials in their folder.  Therefore, there is no danger of materials being accidentally deleted by other individuals.

·         Q drive users, please make sure to move your files over to the W drive.  Student Computer Support would like to phase out the Q drive during the Fall 2005 semester.

·         For those faculty already utilizing the G drive, it will be accessible in faculty offices starting Fall 2005 semester.
