President's Welcome

Welcome to Howard Community College (HCC)!  Thank you for visiting our website.  We hope you will come to our campus soon to discover in person how “You Can Get There From Here” academically, professionally, or for personal enrichment.  No matter where your life’s journey is headed, as our mission states, HCC can “provide pathways to success.”  Whether you want to earn a college degree, prepare to transfer to a four-year institution, or take a couple of classes to advance in your career, there is something for everyone here!

HCC is one of the fastest growing community colleges in Maryland and enrolls almost 30,000 students annually.  In fact, one out of every four graduates of Howard County public schools attends the college each year.  You may ask why so many students attend HCC – the answer is simple – to get an affordable, quality education from the most dedicated faculty and staff you will find anywhere, in a caring and diverse environment.

When students are asked through our annual survey about what they rate the highest at the college, it is consistently the quality of instruction.  HCC faculty and staff are committed to help students “discover their greatness.”  We enjoy what we do and it shows in our interactions with students.  This is one of the many reasons why The Chronicle of Higher Education named HCC a “Great College to Work For” for the sixth year in 2014 and we have earned honor roll status.

HCC is a vital part of Howard County.  A recent economic impact study highlights HCC’s contributions to the community.

  • Howard County taxpayers will see an 11.3 percent return on the County’s investment in HCC.
  • Over the course of a student’s working career, the average HCC student’s lifetime earnings will increase $5.20 for every dollar invested in their HCC education.
  • Over the course of a working lifetime, an associate degree graduate in Howard County earns $511,300 more than someone with only a high school diploma.
  • Nearly 74 percent of HCC students stay in the region and contribute to the local economy.

I invite you to experience first-hand all that HCC has to offer.  Let us help you find your unique pathway to success!
