Thank you for visiting Howard Community College (HCC)! By exploring our website and/or visiting our campus, you will discover quickly that “You Can Get There From Here” no matter what your stage of academic, professional, or personal engagement. At HCC, it is all about helping our students succeed and supporting the community in which we live. There is always a place for you on our campus whether you seek to earn a college degree, prepare to transfer to a four-year institution, become immersed in job training, or attend one of the many performances or events featured on our beautiful campus. I am proud to say that a significant portion of those in Howard County are making HCC their first choice to secure higher education. As a result, HCC has become one of the fastest growing community colleges in Maryland and enrolls over 29,000 students annually. In fact, one out of every four graduates of Howard County Public Schools attends the college each year. Those in our community are coming to HCC in record numbers because of our very visible commitment to excellence and quality. As the only college in Maryland to receive the U.S. Senate Productivity Award for Performance Excellence, HCC’s commitment to student outcomes and assessment resonates loudly and clearly. In addition, the college was selected as a finalist for the nation’s highest recognition of excellence, the 2008 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. When students are queried through our annual survey about what they rate the highest at the college, it is consistently the quality of instruction. HCC faculty and staff are driven to help students “discover their greatness.” We enjoy what we do and our interactions with students. This is one of the many reasons why The Chronicle of Higher Education named HCC a “Great College to Work For” in 2009, 2010, and 2011 and has given us honor roll status. We welcome sharing more with you about the college and hope that you will look to HCC as you prepare yourself for a future filled with vast opportunities. Sincerely, Kathleen Hetherington, Ed.D.
