** Diversity Week a Success! **

February 27 – March 2, the college hosted “Diversity Week” with the theme “Leap into Diversity” for faculty, staff, students, and the community. During the week-long celebration of diversity, there were opportunities to learn about a variety of backgrounds including the cultures of Australia, Nigeria, China, Iran, Persian, Ireland, and the Gullah culture in the U.S.; mental illness, Hispanic student experiences, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) awareness; cross cultural communication, work place communication; the connections between music and aging and culture; the connection between diversity and the HCC Mission, Vision, Values; the cultural influences of Indian dance; the civil rights movement in Baltimore, fair trade, world hunger, homelessness and much more. Many faculty and staff commented that they appreciated the variety of events offered.

A big thank you goes to the 2012 diversity week subcommittee, and the entire diversity committee including Renee Barger, Llatetra Brown, Brittany Budden, Cristele Cain, Cherisse Carlin, Valerie Davies, Evelyn Del Rosario, Jessica Deutch, Crystal French, Schnell Garrett, Patty Grim, Sherry Holbrook-Atkinson, Zakia Johnson, Julie Jones, Dave Jordan, Heather Joseph, Ann Kukulies, Jenny Male, Janice Marks, Kristie Meck, Melanie Moore, Ben Myers, Mary Newberger, Maya Patel, Ann Repka, Catalina Ruiz, Linda Schnapp, Parul Shah, Narinder Sharma, Jennifer Stanford, Eli Stav, Eva Surowiec, Veronica Uhland, Karen Vadnais, Chuni Wang, Angela Wood, and Linda Wu for planning the 32 events offered during the week.
