Ms. Katherine K. RensinKathy Rensin has served as a member of the Howard Community College Board of Trustees since 2003 and is currently the vice chair. Ms. Rensin has served on the board’s audit and finance committee and currently chairs the legislative and community relations committee. She has contributed richly to Howard Community College, having served as chairperson of the 15th Annual Columbia Classic Grand Prix in 2002, and as a member of the HCC Educational Foundation Board from 2001-2007, where she has served as the vice chair as well as chair of the nominating committee. Ms. Rensin also served on the foundation’s finance and investment committee and the new ventures committee. She has chaired the President’s Gala committee in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Additionally, Ms. Rensin has volunteered her time to mentor and coach students through the Silas Craft Collegians program and is a current coach in the Step-Up Program. She was also a member of the Workforce Development Task Force for the 2008 Commission on the Future.
Ms. Rensin received her Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University with a dual major in psychology and speech and language pathology/audiology. She subsequently attended Syracuse University where she received dual masters degree in both speech and language pathology and audiology. She has also pursued advanced studies in learning disabilities at The Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Rensin is a licensed realtor.
She is an active community member, having served on the board of directors for the Domestic Violence Center for Howard County and as an in-court advocate for the Domestic Violence Unit of the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a long-time volunteer tutor for Howard County Project Literacy, she has taught basic literacy, math, and critical thinking skills to adults with learning disabilities, and helped them achieve their External High School Diplomas. Ms. Rensin has also served as the Design Chairperson for the Historic Ellicott City Show House and as a mentor for students at Glenelg High School. She was the chairperson of the 2005 Republican State Party’s Winter Convention and served as chairperson for Governor Ehrlich’s 2002 Children’s Inaugural held at HCC.
