Ms. Mary Speake EsmondMary Esmond was appointed to the Howard Community College Board of Trustees starting in July 2009. Her areas of expertise include strategic planning and implementation, sales growth, inter-organizational collaboration, as well as restructuring and organizational change. Ms. Esmond is the president/owner of Abbington Home, a retail home furnishings and design store in Columbia, MD. Previously, she worked at The Baltimore Sun for 7 years, most recently as the vice president of product and sales development.
Ms. Esmond has dedicated herself to a variety of community activities. In addition to her service on the HCC Board of Trustees, she is supporting the development of the National Anthem Celebration, Inc., the foundation which will promote the 200th anniversary of the writing of the “Star-Spangled Banner.” She served as a member of the board of directors for the Preakness Celebration for many years, three of which she was the president. She has volunteered as a coach for youth athletics, as well as volunteered at Bushy Park Elementary School, the Howard County Wine Masters, the Howard County General Hospital Foundation, Howard County Tourism, and the American Cancer Society.
Ms. Esmond has a bachelor of arts in radio, television, and film from University of Maryland, College Park. She and her husband, Daniel, have two daughters.
