The college is required by the Annotated Code of Maryland Article 10, Section 631-634 and COMAR 14.18.02 to “develop a program to efficiently manage its records.  This includes the establishment and/or revision of records retention schedules.  The president or designee is responsible for ensuring that all public records created or received by the college are on an approved records retention and disposal schedule”.

The Howard Community College record retention schedule lists and describes the records of the college and indicates when they shall be disposed of or directs their permanent retention.  The schedule must be systematically maintained and applied to the files mentioned within.  This schedule should be reviewed by college personnel and updated on a five-year cycle, with each update receiving state records approval.

The record retention schedule is located on the web page of the office of planning, research, and organizational development.
