Howard Community College (HCC) is required by the Annotated Code of Maryland Title 10-631-634 and COMAR 14.18.02 to develop a program to efficiently manage its records.  This includes the establishment or revision of records retention schedules.  The college president or designee is responsible for ensuring that all public records created or received by the college are on an approved records retention and disposal schedule.

The HCC records retention schedule lists and describes the records of the college and indicates the period of time for disposal of records or directs their permanent retention.  The schedule must be systematically maintained and applied to the applicable files.  This schedule is reviewed by college personnel and updated on a five-year cycle, with each update receiving approval of the Maryland State Archives State Records Management Division.

The approved records retention schedule is managed by the college’s planning, research, and organizational development (PROD) office and is located on the PROD portal.
