Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Services-50.04A. General
In accordance with the Americans with Disability Act, the college will establish services to provide reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
B. Procedures
A program of comprehensive mainstreamed support services is provided to all students with disabilities who are enrolled in credit programs and who apply for services through one of two campus offices. Students work either through the Disability Support Services (DSS) office or the Student Support Services Program (SSSP). Students must submit appropriate and adequate documentation of their disability in advance, meet with a counselor to complete an accommodations contract, request support services each semester, and request accommodations each semester from their assigned faculty members. All records and documentation of their disability will be kept in confidential files in the DSS or SSSP office and are not accessible to anyone outside of these offices.
C. Services
Services provided to students include counseling, advising, advocacy, and tutoring. All students who have documented their disability and have met with the assigned counselor to determine reasonable accommodations and have completed an accommodations agreement form will receive reasonable accommodations based on their unique needs. Reasonable accommodations will provide the student the opportunity to have equal access to instructional offerings while maximizing the student’s academic potential and personal independence. The college will comply with all applicable federal and state laws pertaining to equal access and non-discrimination of persons with disabilities. Accommodations provided include, but are not limited to, sign language interpreters, note takers, and test-taking accommodations such as extended time, reader/writers, and assistive technology.
