Organizational Leadership

The seven-member Howard Community College Board of Trustees, appointed by the governor for six-year terms, is the college's legal governing body.  The board has the legal decision-making authority for HCC, but values the input of the college through a defined process of governance.

Each spring the college submits the mission, vision, values and beliefs, and strategic initiatives and goals for board approval.  The following winter, the college presents the integrated strategic plan and budget for approval.  Internal governance at HCC includes several avenues to encourage the involvement of employees in the day-to-day and long-term decision making of the college: core work units, constituency groups, an augmented team, a college council, major cross-functional teams, a planning council, and external groups.  Students are represented in as many of these groups as possible.
