(Columbia, MD) - This summer, Howard Community College is offering new noncredit continuing education courses that can help residents build their entrepreneurial and acting skills as well as explore personal enrichment opportunities. Residents ages 60+ interested in history can choose a new course focusing on the Civil War. Hundreds of returning favorites cover course topics including business, computers and information technology, health care careers, adult basic skills, English as a Second Language, lifestyle and leisure, test preparation, and motorcycle safety. County residents also have the opportunity to explore topics online.
Online registration begins April 24; walk-in, fax, and mailed registrations starts May 8. Mailed brochures reach county residences the second week of May.
Below is a listing of some of the new continuing education noncredit courses at Howard Community College:
- Starting Your Own Boutique – Residents interested in starting their own small retail business can gain an overview of the various aspects of business ownership and operation.
- Getting Started in Acting – Aspiring actors and actresses can learn the differences in medium, audition techniques, unions, resources, local opportunities, and so much more.
- Picture This: Image Transfers – Students in this class will learn how to create their own abstract art work using photographs and photocopies.
- Civil War History: Spies and Women Soldiers – Residents ages 60+ can examine the duties and actions of Civil War spies and women soldiers as well as explore topics including famous spies, spymasters, spy rings of the Union and Confederacy, and espionage methods used during the war.
Most classes are grade-free and exam-free, except licensure/certification offerings. Businesses may also arrange customized training for groups of staff members on the company site or at the college’s business training facilities.
