Howard Community College President Dr. Kate Hetherington Named to The Daily Record’s List of “Top 100 Women”

As a three-time award recipient, Dr. Hetherington will also be inducted into the Circle of Excellence during a May ceremony

(Columbia, MD) - Out of 370 nominees, Howard Community College (HCC) President Dr. Kate Hetherington has been selected as one of The Daily Record’s “Top 100 Women” in Maryland. Dr. Hetherington was recognized for her professional achievement, community leadership, and commitment to mentoring. As a three-time recipient of this honor, she will also be inducted into the Circle of Excellence. Dr. Hetherington will be recognized along with her fellow honorees during a ceremony at Baltimore’s Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on May 5, 2014. 

Dr. Hetherington became the fourth president of HCC in 2007, and was the first to have begun her academic career by earning an associate degree from a community college. Under her leadership, the college has grown to serve over 30,000 students annually and received numerous accolades including the 2007 U.S. Senate Productivity Award for Organizational Performance Excellence; a finalist for the 2008 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award; and designation by The Chronicle of Higher Education as a “Great College to Work For” for the last five years.
